Peggy Grant's School of Dance

About Us
Peggy Grant's School of Dance is owed and operated by Peggy Grant and her daughter Pam Mechana. The studio opened its doors on LaBauve Avenue in September 1969.
Mrs. Peggy began studying dance with the Lester Mae School of Dance in New Iberia, LA in 1945. She graduated from USL with a BA degree in Psychology and Dance. After college and marrying Mr. Carl Grant in 1962, they moved to Plaquemine. Mrs. Peggy opened the studio in 1969 so that she could teach her daughter, Pam, the art of dance.
Mrs. Peggy is a graduate of the Dance Masters of America Teachers Training School in New York City. She is a member of Dance Masters of America and Dixie Association of Dance Teachers. Mrs. Peggy is the past Secretary for Dixie Dance Masters, an office in which she has held for thirty years.
Mrs. Pam studied dance at Peggy Grant's School of Dance since 1969. She competed with the Powel-Moise Gymnastic team for 6 years. Mrs. Pam participated in a graduate dance program at LSU. She holds a bachelor's degree from LSU in Elementary Education and has 37 years of education teaching experience. She is certified by test to teach through Dance Masters of America for 29 years. She has served on the Dixie Dance Masters Board of Directors for the past 27 years. Mrs. Pam currently holds the office of Secretary of Dixie Association of Dance Teachers and has served as a Delegate on the National Board of Directors of Dance Masters of America for the past 8 years.
Mrs. Pam is a certified examiner for Dance Masters of America.

Many Peggy Grant Dancers have gone on to dance on college dance teams such as LSU Golden Girls, LSU cheerleaders, Southeastern Lionettes, Northwestern Dance Team, Northeastern Dance Team, USL, McNeese, Nicholls, and Saintsations. One of our past students is currently dancing on the professional stage in California.
The Peggy Grant Dancers have been seen in public performances such as the Veteran's Day Memorial Celebration, Children's Christmas Festival, Krewe of Cypress Mardi Gras Ball, St. John May Pole Presentation, the Baton Rouge Ballet Nutcracker, and Iberville Parish Dancing With the Stars.
Several students will represent their schools on high school dance teams and cheer squads this coming year. Some of the Peggy Grant dancers can be seen on the MSA Performing Arts stage in school productions.
